Főtaxi is the officially appointed taxi company to service the airport. They offer competitive zone-based rates.
Zone 1 (the area surrounding the airport): HUF 3,800 / EUR 14
Zone 2 (most of downtown Pest): HUF 5,800 / EUR 21
Zone 3 (Buda and the rest of Pest): HUF 6,000 / EUR 22
Zone 4 (the Buda Hills): HUF 6,500 / EUR 24
Note: As in all major cities, use caution and avoid taking a ride with strangers offering transfers to the city. The best is to call a taxi by telephone at a large company, such as Főtaxi (+36-1) 222-2222 or Citytaxi (+36-1) 211-1111.

Rail (Bidapest-Debrecen) |
|
The MÁV ( Magyar Államvasutak, Hungarian State Railway Company) operates in Hungary. There are several types of train: InterCity (fewer stops, shorter duration of travel, higher speed, and greater comfort), fast trains ( gyorsvonat), passenger trains ( személyvonat). Taking an InterCity (IC) train is the fastest way to travel from Budapest to Debrecen. Trains to Debrecen depart from "Nyugati" Railway Station ( Nyugati Pályaudvar) and most of them make a brief stop at " Kőbánya-Kispest" station, which is close to the airport. From Budapest to Debrecen and back at least one InterCity train per hour is available, i.e. in each hour in the 6 h - 20 h period every day (for timetables see Elvira.hu). The trip takes about 3 hours. Tickets are available at the ticket office in the train stations. In addition to a ticket IC trains require seat reservation ( helyjegy). When purchasing a domestic ticket, mention the exact route and time of departure, and name the IC train you intend to board. EU citizens above age 65 can ride for free, but they have to pay for first class carriage and seat reservation. Ticket plus a seat reservation will cost about 4500 HUF. The seat reservation ticket includes the car number ( kocsi) and the seat number ( hely).
Usually, but not always, the IC trains have a restaurant car. In all train lines there are smoking and non-smoking cars. In all Hungarian train stations a yellow board indicates departures (indul) and a white board shows arrivals (érkezik). Express trains are indicated in red, local trains in black.
Note: Train stations in Budapest are not up to Western quality standards. Be prepared for long queues at the ticket office. English is rarely spoken. Do not expect luggage trolleys or clean toilets. Food or a coffee purchased at the stations is unlikely to give you a gastronomic buzz. Do not accept any offers from taxi drivers waiting around the station entrance.

Public transport in Debrecen |
|
Debrecen's public transportation systems are operated by the company DKV. The service includes buses, trams, trolleybuses. If you take the train to Debrecen, one of the first things you see leaving the station is the turning loop of the tram. There is only one tram line in Debrecen, and this is the easiest way to get to the University or Hotel Aquaticum. However, due to the ongoing reconstructions in the city, a tram substitute bus (No. 1V) will carry passengers on the same line at the time of the conference.
We also recommend you to take bus No. 10, No.10A or No. 10Y connecting the railway station with the Main Building of the University and the Hotel Augusta. This bus leaves from the front of the railway station, and you should get off at the station "Egyetem" (to the University) or "Auguszta" (to the Hotel Augusta).
The University can be reached from the railway station or the center of the town by bus No. 31, No. 32, No. 15.
For information on public transport in Debrecen visit the website:
or
Tickets must be bought before boarding. Public transport uses local tickets. Don't try to use Budapest tickets; they won't work. The same tickets are valid for trams, buses, and trolleybuses. Tickets are available at newsagents on "Nagyállomás" railway stations and post offices, or you can buy them from the driver (in the latter case it is a bit more expensive, see below). The single tickets are valid for one single journey of any length (without changing) on all routes. In order to use local public transport for unlimited journeys you can buy 1-, 3- or 7-day ticket (1-, 3-, or 7-napos jegy). Any of these (as well as single tickets) can be bought at the ticket office in front of the railway station.
Buses, trams and trolleybuses run daily from 4.30 a.m. until 11.0 p.m. You must validate your ticket at a ticket-punching machine when starting your trip.
Hungarian citizens as well as citizens of other member states of the European Union over the age of 65 years can travel free of charge on DKV public transport services.
